Virtual World "Problems"

This has nothing to do with anything, I just thought
the build was really pretty.

It was 14 months ago I launched the Unslutty and Undead marketplace shop to share my silly little gestures and poses with the virtual public. I did it for a giggle, for a small amount of validation (gosh, I'm needy!), and not for any remuneration (except for that Harold Lloyd clock pose - the clockface had been such a hassle to create that I demand an entire Llinden dollar for it). I really am pleased with the result. I get these nice little emails from the marketplace telling me who bought what, and I really do giggle over it.

The time for giggling is past, though. I'm getting tired of the emails. There have been 1,526 of them in the past 14 months. At first there would be one or two a week. Giggle, giggle! There's this gurgly feeling inside that I have shared something with someone - that they thought enough of what I created to get it for free. Pathetic, aren't I? Recently, however, I'm getting multiple emails daily. This is starting to wear on my Happiness organ, the Felix Organus Magnus. I can only be thrilled by something so many times in a week before I run out of mucus felicitas. It becomes a kind of burden to read the emails and categorize them (can't help myself - German ancestry). I can't imagine what it must be like to have to keep up with these in case of complaints. If anyone complains now, I just point to the "It's Free" sign and I'm off the hook.

All this leads me to believe that I couldn't possibly handle this as an actual business. There was a brief period recently that I considered making some full perm poses for sale for, I dunno, 5 Llindens. Forget that, Herbert! I don't need the money and it would stop being fun.

That said, if anyone wanted something full perm, they could just ask me and send me what they think it's worth, the final product, or just a photo of it in use.

That Daring Young Zombie

Lludmila has added some new poses to her marketplace shop that have been sitting around collecting dusty pixels for a while. As usual, they are free and these come with the extra fancy trapeze hoop you see pictured. The hoop is mod so you can shrink or enlarge it to fit your own av.

These are only made for fun. It's a great challenge just to come up with ideas, so I admire the content creators for their imaginations as well as their artistic abilities. Good on ye!

Just a few things ...

In a previous post I talked about making poses - and how entertaining that has become (if a an expensive hobby after a while).  I have now got a tiny marketplace shop up and running with my mostly free poses and gestures.  I'm still a beginner with this, but I really enjoy sharing fun things with my fellow denizens of the virtual world.

Classical poses (spear not included)

The classic poses I made, which aren't perfect (some are wobbly), are also available for free either at my pied-à-terre in Awen or message me (Lludmila Mirrikh) inworld and I'll drop them in your inventory.

More are on the way - I'm doing some film star poses, mostly silent movie iconic poses like the Harold Lloyd hanging from the clock pose in the shop.

Be a Silent Film Star

I'm, like, sooo available.

Okay, I'm addicted now.  I can't stop making the poses.  I chose to emulate Theda Bara's poses because of her sense of drama.  I'm still learning about poses.  For a while I had trouble getting them to stand still (my classical poses have that problem), but I think I've got that licked, now.  I have to set that root in the pelvis that I'd hitherto found no use for so that the av won't shift about with the standard animation.  And I put the priority all the way up to 4, which probably isn't strictly necessary.

Perhaps a priority of 3 would allow the eyes to move.  Ahhhh, the learning curve!  Because of the dodgy quality (as well as paying back for all the freebies I've enjoyed in SL over the years), I'll be giving these away.  Not sure that there's much of a call for them.

Which came first, the Rodin or the Bara?

Some of these poses might be more meaningful with props, furniture, or backdrops.  I might look into that.  One of the things I have found to be fun in the virtual world has been interactivity with "art."   Perhaps I will create an installation for people to just play in.

Belatedly I realized that an avatar with some meat on her would look better, or at least more authentic, than skinny Kathy.  We tend to associate the silent films with flappers - flappers that had no shape to interfere with the lines of the dresses.  But Theda Bara had some body fat on her which makes her look nicely upholstered and sensual.  So Angel was pressed into service.  Here she is above perched on the edge of something invisible.

Quite a Poser

So, I bought the AnimaretheHUD and tried to think of something to pose.  When I think of posing, I think of statues, and because the Infogroupies have an Olympic party coming up (no nudity ... for some reason ... could it have anything to do with me being snap-happy?) I naturally thought of Greek statues.  After two hours (two hours!) of grueling trial-and-error, I came up with this:

Kriscus Discus

The two hours includes trying to figure out how to upload it to the virtual world.  Later, I put it in a generic poseball and then decided it should also "give" a discus.  This required making a discus, which took a minute, maybe (create cylinder, shorten it excessively, make circumference smaller, add texture - voila!).  Then I had to find and cobble an existing "give inventory" script so that it would give an object (which was not its original purpose).  I'm pleased with the result - not so much how much the pose resembles the original, but that I actually achieved a poseball that gave an accessory.

Okay, this one needs work ... this picture was taken while I was still making the pose.  I might be able to do something with the hand in upload, but the main thing was that the shield arm did not behave.  Maybe he just got tired of holding it up.  Fortunately, I ran the test on it before uploading and canceled that upload.

There are limits to what I can do with this HUD, but some of that might go away as I get the hang of it.  Here is another pose that pushes the flexion to its limits, but still gives you the basic idea:

Women were not allowed to attend the Olympics because 1) ancient Greeks were a$$holes and 2) the men were naked.  There was, though, one Spartan woman who trained chariot race horses and although she was not able to watch, her team did win.  Hurrah for Spartans!
Too bad for Greek women, but there were a couple of goddesses who got to do whatever they wanted.  Artemis went hunting.  Kathy should have put on the shorter outfit, but I was too lazy.

Kathy's hand was formed in the upload, but her head seems to be uncooperative.  Maybe I made the priority too low on the pose.  The quiver is just from her inventory.
Also, I don't have a leaping deer to add.  I tried a tiger, but my tiger is a pet that follows and it insists on staying on the right-hand side.  That would have been cool, though.

All in all, the Animare HUD is pretty easy to use if even I can slash-and-burn my way through the process.  The link above takes you to the website where you can see how it works.  The FAQ is hilariously short (but helpful).  I guess no one asks questions.  This was purchased from the marketplace and the reviews of the product were encouraging.  If you'd like to try creating poses, it's a 299L outlay and 300L-worth of fun (if that's what you'd call "fun").
