A Lesson

Wagon 1: rez in edit. Just sayin'.

Interior, Wagon 1.

Where did these come from? Wagon 1 accessories.

Alb/Lamu group gift (to the left of the main desk) of a gypsy wagon (actually, there are three in the folder - with different art etc.) campfire, rocks, and drums!  Very colorful merchandise at Alb Dream Design! See some of the group gift clothing at the Unslutty and Undead blog.

do you realise how offensive this is?

Which part? The Goodies reference?

Anonymous said...

The reference of "gypsies" = thieves

considering the Goodies was a 70s show, and of its time.

Anonymous said...

what the actual fuck. "Geepsies"???

marfita said...

It was meant solely as a reference to the show, which was often offensive while making a point.

so what point were they making about "gypsies"?

I think my last comment got lost

What point were the goodies making about "gypsies"?

That in order to mask their own culpability, some people manipulate others into believing the worst of a given minority.
But mostly it was just an opportunity to make asses of themselves in a silly panto situation.
This is turning into an interesting convo - as it leads directly into my theory of how comedy is the best tool in correcting social behavior.

Sorry if your comments are slow coming up. I moderate them and I have to keep coming back to check.

except the myth that "gypsies" are thieves, shady and untrustworthy is perpetuated by the media, and continues today, nothing has changed, in fact. All the goodies did was show the public that "gypsies" are criminals, even if they were only dressing as such

except you're not talking about the show at all in the post. :-/

But we are having a very good discussion about it now. It made an excellent opportunity for you to express your views.
We never know where a careless remark may lead us.

except you haven't conceded anything, and it 'leads to an interesting discussion'?

"gypsy" is a racial slur, and highly offensive and that you have continued to use it in conjunction with theft

Do you understand why I am upset by this?

marfita said...

Do you understand that I have meant no offense?
I am happy to change the name of the blogpost if you have a suggestion.

I understand you meant no offense, but that doesn't mean it wasn't.

Change the title, to something that doesn't include a racial slur please.

Just in case you are interested
